Reporting into the Faculty Marketing and Communications Manager within External Relations, the Faculty Web Coordinator supports development and maintenance of the Faculty’s web presence including schools, research centres and groups, external partnership collaborations and other related sites. With a strong focus on content and layout, web copywriting, optimising for best results and providing effective support, this role requires a keen eye for detail, accuracy and the ability to deliver support to audiences of all levels. The role holder is responsible for ensuring all content is relevant, consistent, written using the appropriate tone and voice for diverse audiences and follows our branding and style guides.

Duties and responsibilities:


Communicating and influencing 

Working with the University’s Content management System (CMS) the Faculty Web Coordinator promotes both the corporate brand and Faculty/School identity by adapting centrally defined templates, producing high quality web pages and supporting/leading school web coordinators in these tasks.

Quality and consistency:

Liaise with the Web Team and the Faculty (and all relevant areas) to ensure that sites meet corporate guidelines and WCAG2 accessibility standards. He or she also works closely with school/faculty staff to optimise site content for search engines, increasing the faculty’s visibility to potential students and partners. 

Content and technical management:

The Faculty Web Coordinator liaises with school and faculty staff to gather web site content (news, research, events, recruitment, calendars, campaigns and activities) and works with them to edit, proof and publish finished content. Ensure that new content is uploaded regularly and through regular troubleshooting ensure that redundant material/links are dealt with regularly and quickly. Analyse website statistics using Google Analytics and other available tools and suggest and implement improvements. Evaluate changes made and report as necessary. Liaise with the Faculty Marketing and Communications Manager to support them in implementing web and digital strategies.

Digital engagement 

Manage the faculty’s digital engagement (i.e. Twitter account) and blog (if one exists). Offer advice and guidance for staff running School or Department social media accounts and blogs. Identify areas where social media, blogs and videos can be used to better present content and engage different audiences. Ensure digital engagement is embedded across all marcomms (marketing communication) activity, including the web. 

 Security and legal 

The Faculty Web Coordinator will work with central service departments to advise school staff, ensuring that sub-sites of the main faculty/web sites conform to University security and legal standards. e.g. Data Protection; Copyright

Skills and experience Essential: 

    HND (or equivalent) and work experience in a relevant role or proven track record in similar role. 

    Good knowledge and use of HTML, CSS and image editing software (eg Photoshop) with proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word and Excel). 

    Excellent copywriting skills with specific experience in editing web content. 

    Knowledge and understanding of search engine optimisation. 

    Familiar with WCAG2 accessibility standards and experienced in complying with these. 

    Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage tight and potentially conflicting deadlines.

    Good oral and written communications skills. Experience of editing and developing website content in a CMS. 

    Experience of liaising with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

    A strong commitment to equal opportunities. 

Desirable: 

    BA in marketing, web or related field. 

    Copywriting/editing qualification. 

    Project management skills. 

    User of WordPress. 

    Professional use of blogging platforms, Twitter and Facebook. 

    Experience of editing website content in a higher education context. 

    Experience of monitoring and reporting on web usage statistics using a tool such as Google Analytics.
